Relaxing Aquarium

Waikiki Aquarium by desertnut

An aquarium can be very relaxing and good for the soul. The above video was taken at Waikiki Aquarium while we were on vacation in Hawaii. I posted this video a couple of years ago on my blog but thought I share it again for those who haven't seen it. Be sure to click on the small box next to Dailymotion to enlarge HD video. It's like having your very own fish tank on your monitor without having to clean it. Enjoy!

Sushi Dinner - Waikiki

We walked to Doraku Sushi on Kalakaua Avenue for dinner this evening. The sushi and nearby entertainment was great! We also stopped at a coffee shop a few blocks down and had a chocolate chip macadamia cookie with fresh brewed coffee for desert.

Okinawan Festival 2010 - Waikiki

This Labor Day weekend, Gordie and I went to the Okinawan Festival held at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki. The festival featured live performances, cultural activities, craft galleries, and food such as Pigs feet soup, yakisoba and andagi. The above video shows some of these activities.

Outrigger Swamped

While watching from the lanai, we saw a big wave break on top of an outrigger. The wave filled the cockpit nearly swamping the boat. Two people bailed the water out with buckets while the rest of the crew got out. Luckily they were able to get the water out of the cockpit and all returned back in the boat.

We were planning to go out someday on an outrigger but I changed my mind after seeing this.

Oscar the Parrot

Yesterday I walked to the Hyatt Regency to say hello to Oscar the talking parrot. He usually says hello to me but this time he snapped at me! Then he completely ignored me. It was obvious that Oscar was in a a very bad mood.

I wasn't in a very good mood too after I found out my Macbook Pro display went completely black. Wouldn't you know, my laptop is three years old and out of warranty. Bummer!! It couldn't have happened at a worse time.

Then I looked on line using my iPhone and found out there was a graphics card problem in the Macbook Pros starting from 2007 through 2009. So I walked to the Apple Store which is only a couple of blocks from here (I love this place everything nearby). The technician tested it out and sure enough it was a bad graphics card. I was so lucky because he had one in stock and can have it replaced within three days. The best part, it's free of charge!

This video and post was all done using my iPhone which is a great back up. So my day wasn't so bad after all. Maybe Oscar will have a better day today too!

Fireworks Last Night - Waikiki Beach

We saw beautiful fireworks last night with a bird's-eye view from the Foster Tower. It must have been a wedding celebration or some big event. This is not the same fireworks we normally see every Friday night. Watch the above video.

Update: just found out that it was Admission Day, Hawaii became the 50th state.

We had lunch at Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in Waikiki. We sat outside facing the water when we saw a large barge carrying cargo (see above video).

Our lunch was awesome! I really enjoyed the Salmon Caesar Salad. We had ice tea instead of having their famous German beers. The restaurant is located in the Aloha Tower Marketplace:

Boats

Last night I watched a cruise ship and a sail boat go by. There were also a lot of surfers out there. It was a very nice evening!

On my walk, yesterday morning, I saw this lighthouse from Diamond Head. Click on above image to enlarge.

Waikiki Happenings

Every evening there's a lot to see off the street of Kalakaua Ave on Waikiki Beach. Here's a few short video clips of some of the happenings.

The Hilton Hawaii Village puts on a free firework show on the beach every Friday. Here's the view we had from the Foster Tower last night. Next Friday I'll walk near the hotel to get the whole view of the fireworks.

International Market Place - Waikiki

The International Market Place is a well known landmark in Waikiki Honolulu, Hawaii. It's like a street fair but only bigger. A great place to shop for inexpensive souvenirs.

I was very surprised and disappointed when I read an article in the Hawaii Magazine here, that "the Market Place still stands. But its days are numbered."

The above movie shows several brief video clips of what it's like at The International Market Place.

Streetlight Cadence Band - Waikiki

Last night I went to Yogurtland Waikiki for some yogurt when I heard a cool band play outside the shop. The band is called Streetlight Cadence. I liked the music so much I bought their CD. You can follow the band here on Facebook for updates. If you missed them playing last night at Waikiki, they will be playing again next week.

Watch the above video to hear samples of their music. Got permission from the band before I film this.

Sunset or Sunrise - Reversed Time Lapse

This sunset was filmed at Waikiki Beach looking out from the Foster Tower last month. I increased the speed of the video to give it a time lapse effect. Then reversed the footage so it would appear like a sunrise.

The music was put together in Soundtrack. Using this great software helps me to create the right music mood for some of my video needs. After speeding up the above footage, it ended up being only 33 seconds long.

Huge Block Party - Waikiki Beach

There was a huge block party on a Friday night in Waikiki. Kalakaua Avenue was closed down and the streets were filled with thousands of people (see above video). There was plenty of food and entertainment. All I can say is, Waikiki is a happening place! I could never be bored there.

Waikiki Aquarium

Waikiki Aquarium from Linda McClure on Vimeo.

While on vacation in Hawaii, I went to the Waikiki Aquarium. It was walking distance from where we were staying. I saw some amazing coral and jellyfish. I also learned about the different fish species in Hawaii's ocean.

My video of the live colorful fish aquarium almost looks like my mom's plastic imitation one I posted here: Fish Tank

Camera: Canon HD HV40
Mode: Auto
Edit: iMovie 09
Music: Arranged in Soundtrack
