Rusti & Violet the Orangutans

Everyday after my hike, I usually stop at the Honolulu Zoo to visit Rusti & Violet, the two orangutans. The day before while visiting at the zoo, I had some popcorn with me. Rusti came real close to the viewing glass where I was standing and stared directly at me. He watched every move I made while I ate my popcorn. I felt so bad eating in front of him I decided to put the popcorn away in my backpack.

The very next day while visiting the two orangutans again, I saw Rusti and Violet up in their tree for the first time. Rusti broke a tree branch from above and dropped it to the ground. Then he climbed down to a net and did a few tumble and tosses before he retrieved the broken tree branch.

I was totally surprised when he brought the branch close to the viewing glass where I was standing and defiantly ate the leaves right in front of me. I guess Rusti was getting even with me for not sharing my popcorn from the day before! LOL!

Watch the above movie I took with my iPhone.

Rusti & Violet - Honolulu Zoo

After my morning hike, I stopped at the Honolulu Zoo on my way back. I usually check out Rusti and Violet (the two orangutans) to see what they are up to. This time, I didn't see any shoe or cardboard boxes they normally play with. They looked a little bored. I never noticed this before, Rusti and Violet walk with their fist. These orangutans fascinate me!

Rusti's hair looks orange or rusty color in the bright sunshine. This is probably why he was named Rusti.

Honolulu Zoo

Yesterday, I spent the morning at the Honolulu Zoo taking pictures and video. The above movie contains a wide variety of animals and birds that I thought were very interesting or unique. Check it out!

I totally enjoyed watching Rusty and Violet, the two Orangutans. Rusty stared intently at Violet playing and chewing on an old sports shoe. As soon as Violet dropped the shoe, Rusty picked it up and started studying it and then took a bite at it. He eventually tossed the shoe because he was not amused. Both orangutans are too cute and funny in their own way. Also, I left the original sounds to the video. Listen carefully to the conversation of a little boy in the background talking to his mother about the orangutans. That even made it more funnier.

I'm pleased to hear that the elephants will be moving out of their little cubbyhole and into a new and bigger place real soon. Finally, it's about time!
