Old Fishing Pier Survives Wilma!

I'm so glad that Hurricane Wilma didn't tear down the Naples Fishing Pier like Hurricane Donna did in 1960. It's unbelievable that the old fishing pier is still standing! Click on above picture to see a brief movie clip I made.

Naples, Florida is where I use to live when I was a kid in the early 1960's. My family and I fished many times off that fishing pier. We caught quite a few different types of fish: yellow tail snappers, baracudas, sharks, bonita, red grouper, king fish and other exotic fish. Fishing was always exciting to me because I never knew what kind of fish I was going to catch next.

The Naples Fishing Pier is one of the most popular attractions in Naples, Florida. Originally built in 1888 as a freight and passenger dock, the Naples Pier stands as a community landmark. Narrow gauge train rails spanning the length of the pier transported freight and baggage in the early 1900’s. Part of the structure as well as the post office located on the Naples Pier was razed by fire in 1912. Rebuilt after damage by hurricanes in 1910, 1926 and 1960, it remains a public symbol of the area’s history. The Naples Pier, now over 100 years old is moving into the 21st century, in a big way!
