Coachella Valley Preserve Hike 2014

It was a pleasant cool hike this morning at the Coachella Valley Preserve. We kept the hike simple for Gordon until his back gets stronger. I think the exercise is doing him some good. He hasn't complained about any back discomfort which is a huge relief for him!

Hike to the Cross - Palm Desert, CA

We started our hike on the Homestead Trail and then crossed over to the Hopalong Cassidy Trail. The elevation gain is around 700 feet. A moderate 4 mile round trip from the tennis court.

Gordon hasn't hiked for at least five and half months since he injured his back. I was real surprised that he picked this hike after his recovery because it's a nice hefty climb up to the cross.

Black Rock Canyon Trail Hike - Joshua National Park

Today we hiked Black Rock Canyon Trail and the Panorama Loop (6.6 miles roundtrip). The joshua trees were in full spring bloom and the views were spectacular! The last time we hiked this trail we saw a big rattle snake. This time we saw a cute and harmless jack rabbit! Watch the above video.

A Nice Day for a Hike

Today, the weather was absolutely beautiful, it was a nice day for a hike. It's been several months since my last hike and it felt great to get back on the saddle. Speaking of saddle, we hiked the Horseshoe loop and few other trails to make it a 7 mile hike. Watch the above video to get a glimpse of our trek.

Hoh Rain Forest Hike - Olympic National Park

We hiked The Hoh River-Five Mile Island Trail in the Olympic Rain Forest in Forks, Washington on August 20, 2012. The trail was impeccably groomed with minimal elevation change. There were wide grassy banks along the rainforest river. We walked by moss-cloaked maples, licorice ferns and club mosses that clung to overhanging trees. The surroundings were lush and beautiful!

The hike was 10.5 miles roundtrip easy to moderate with elevation gain at 300 feet.

Sol Duck Hike - Olympic National Park

On Thursday, August, 9th, instead of taking the 1.6 miles round trip hike to the Sol Duc falls, we did the 6 mile loop. We saw beautiful moss covered rocks and trees that gave a scenic contrast to the streams and creeks. It was breathtaking! Towards the end of our trek there were many hikers on a bridge above the rushing waterfall to take pictures. Watch the above video.

Chambers Bay Hike - Tacoma Washington

On Saturday, August 4th, we planned a visit with Leo in Washington for a hike. We did the Grandview Trail that's located along the top of a 200 foot bluff that offers sweeping views of the Chambers Bay golf course, Puget Sound, and the surrounding islands. It was a nice moderate 1 1/4 mile hike.

Mount St. Helens Hiking

It was a beautiful day last Thursday when we hiked the Mount St. Helens area. We started our trek from the Johnston Ridge Observatory parking lot. We hiked the Boundary trail to the Truman trailhead that gave us captivating views of Mount St. Helens and a large lake.

Check out USGS website about: 30 Cool Facts about Mount St. Helens.

New Bike Trail - Tramway Rd. Palm Spring, CA

On the way to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway we noticed there's a new bike trail on the access road to the Valley Station. We have often thought this would be a challenging climb for either bikers or hikers. I filmed our drive going up Tramway Road to give you a feel of how strenuous this climb would be. The road goes straight up with an elevation gain of 1910 ft. in only 3.8 miles. No switchbacks and few turns. Watch the above video.
