Nature Trails - Mt. San Jacinto Wilderness

We haven't hiked for the past two months because of the 115 degrees summer temperatures. So this morning we decided to "get out of Dodge" and go to San Jacinto Mountain to beat the heat. A while back, we purchased a Summer Pass at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to ride a rotating tramcar to get there. The pass allows us to ride up the tram as many times as we want until the end of this month. So we thought we better use it before it expires.

The Mount San Jacinto State Park Area has around 54 miles of hiking trails. Some of the trails go as high as 10,000 feet up the mountain.  Today, however, we only did the nature walk trails. We're planning to try one of the hiking trails later this week.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

On July 20, 2011, we took our granddaughter, Ella, to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. She loved riding in the rotating tramcar up to the Mountain Station. When we got to the top, she enjoyed the spectacular views.

There were a lot of squirrels in the area begging for food. A big squirrel got in the restaurant and tried to talk us into giving him our lunch. No way! We're not suppose to feed the squirrels.
