Jim, one of our hiking buddies, introduced us to the unique sport of lawn bowling. Jim bowls a couple of times a week with the group at the Joslyn Center in Palm Desert, CA. Watch the above movie trailer.

Jim's Lawn Bowling Association had a two day tournament on February 4th and 5th. He invited us to observe and take a few pictures. When Jim told us about lawn bowling, I envisioned pins set up on the grass. Boy, was I totally off! First of all, the balls are called bowls and are not perfect spheres like a bowling ball. Instead of pins, the goal is to get closest to a little white ball called the Jack. That's all I know for now.
Everyone in the tournament played with ease, however, Jim told us it takes a lot of skill, strategy and sometimes luck to win the game. Watch the above movie.
It was fun watching the tournament and I totally enjoyed taking pictures and video of this amazing and fun event!
