We hiked The Art Smith Trail off of Highway 74 in Palm Desert near Bighorn Country Club. The trailhead is located directly across from the Visitor Center for the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Mountain.
The trail offers beautiful rock formations and panoramic views with plenty of switchbacks up the hillside. The total hike is 16 miles, however, we only went half way and turned back. We're taking baby steps before we attempt the whole complete hike.
