Black-eyed Peas on New Year's Day

In my family, it's our tradition to have black-eyed peas on New Year's Day. It's a Southern New Year ritual that I learned from my step-father many years ago. I remember my dad making the best cornbread and collard greens I ever had. He always use to tell us that the collard greens represents money and the black-eyed peas means good luck.

We weren't with our family today because my mom has a bad cold and the rest of the family live far from us. So it was just me and hubby. I thought I had a bag of dried black-eyed peas, but I was wrong. I quickly went to the store this morning to get some. Black-eye Peas is a must! I looked in the canned goods sections and none to be found. Luckily I found the last small bag of black-eyed peas in the frozen department! Phew!
