New Trader Joe's

There's a new Trader Joe's in La Quinta, I just found out today. I can't believe all the new stores that are being built out here in the desert. This place is becoming boom town! Fifteen years ago there was hardly nothing out here.

I remember Welty's in the early 1990's located on the corner of Washington Blvd. and 42nd Street (which is now Hovely) in Palm Desert. Welty's was a little market where we use to get our rotisserie chicken. It was like a little "mom & pop" grocery store that had the look of the 50's. It had all the basics that any one would need for shopping. Lucky's was where we use to do our main grocery shopping (on the corner of Monterey and Country Club). Now all that is gone.

Today we have several grocery stores within a mile radius to choose from, which is great. The bad part is, the traffic has increased so much, it's starting to get almost like Los Angeles. One good thing, when the summer comes, many people leave the desert. That's when it reminds me of how the desert use to be.

Read news article in The Desert Sun about the new Trader Joe's and prospective stores to come.
