Homemade Grits

Breakfast at Cabazon
Video sent by desertnut
Gordon and I were on our way to Hemet when we decided to stop for breakfast. We went to a little truck stop called the Wheel Inn, near the Dinosaurs at Cabazon. It's been a long time since we ate there. We use to go there for dinner many years ago when we traveled from Westlake Village to our weekend home in Palm Desert.

My favorite breakfast side dish at the Wheel Inn, instead of potatoes, is grits. I think this is the only place in town where they serve this rare southern dish. It reminded me of my stepfather who use to make our family the best homemade grits ever!

The only time I ever had grits was in New Orleans, when a waiter in the hotel where we were staying told me that you HAD to have them drowning in butter. Anything drowning in butter is OK in my book!
