The Longest Tunnel

The Longest Tunnel
Video sent by desertnut
Three years ago we went cross-country from Southern California to New York. On the way we went through the longest tunnel on the turnpike in Pennsylvania called Allegheny Mountain Tunnel
. I got a little scared because the tunnel seemed like it would never end. All I kept thinking about "What if there's an earthquake?" Then I remembered, I was in Pennsylvania and not in earthquake territory like California...LOL!

Check out my video and see what it's like to go through the longest tunnel in Pennsylvania. I actually filmed the whole 6,070 foot tunnel!

You made me curious, so I checked out "longest tunnels in the U.S." If you'd like a few more to go through, you can check here: http://home.no.net/lotsberg/data/USA/list.html

Thanks Bev for that cool site! I'm definitely not going any time soon to the City Boston on the Ted Williams Tunnel. That tunnel is way too long for me at 4,200 miles! That's twice as long as the Allegheny tunnel!

Great video!! Thanks for posting it!!You thought you were in Allegheny Tunnel for a long time--you should have been in that tunnel back in the 60's when I was a kid..The tunnel was not double tunneled yet so you had one lane eastbound and one lane westbound sharing the same tunnel. Speed limit of 35 mph & you were lucky if you got to that speed. If you want to learn more check out www.gribblenation.com/papics/ I posted some pics of the old tunnels on that site.
